On 13th July the Special Childrens Extravaganza came to Taranaki again, and the Rapid Relief Teams from New Plymouth and Hawera gladly lent a hand by providing free food for all the attendees for the fourth year running.
The Special Childrens Extravaganza (SCE) is a day of fun organised by NZME for children in the area who suffer from either life threatening illness, physical and intellectual impairment, domestic violence, or living in underprivileged circumstances. The purpose of the event is to put smiles on these children’s faces for at least one day this year, so is something RRT loves to participate in.
This year the attendees were so excited the gates were opened to them 10 minutes early, and everyone enjoyed a funfair of bouncy castles, train rides, face painting, and music and dance shows from 10:50am to 3pm. The RRT free sausage sizzles and hot chips were a favourite once again with many people coming back for more, and the free barista coffees and hot chocolates were an awesome treat for kids and parents alike on the cold day.
Children were invited from Patea to Mokau to attend the event, along with their whanau who care for them through the year. NZME provide buses to transport people living outside of New Plymouth to the TSB stadium; many of these were glad to get some extra free food at the end of the day from RRT to take home with them also. We’re sure everyone there enjoyed the day as much as us and hope to see you all again next year!
