New Zealand’s Homeless
According to the Homelessness New Zealand study, more than 40,000 people, or one in 100 New Zealanders, are now homeless. This includes those living rough, in emergency housing or living in substandard garages.
The Rapid Relief Team supports various Homeless events across New Zealand. These events provide a direct connection between New Zealand’s homeless and the services they need – including doctors, women’s health services, hairdressers and legal counsel, to name a few. Our volunteers provide catered breakfasts and lunches for the homeless, hygiene kits, water, along with all volunteers in attendance. Below are a couple of examples of the many homeless initiatives that RRT support.
Wanganui Stone Soup
The Wanganui Stone Soup takes place approximately every 8 weeks to provide a good quality meal to low income families and persons and to bring the residents in that area together. The Rapid Relief team in Wanganui have always given this event special interest and strive to provide the best for these attendees.
Emergency Housing Meal
In Gisborne, RRT also supports homeless residence in the local temporary housing facility by providing them with a hot BBQ meal of Gourmet Burgers or sausage in bread. These people range from newborn to old age.
How can you help?
RRT are now donating Hygiene Kits for men and women as part of our ongoing support for New Zealand’s homeless.
For every quantity of Hygiene Kits you purchase, RRT will donate the same directly to a Homeless Mission or Homeless Connect event in your region.
